Love is blind

6afbd8cc759cc37920df9dba54b1faf6In these days of quarantine & chill,
I’ve just finished the Netflix show Love is Blind.
A cringe-fest to be sure.
Yet, I found myself smiling by the reunion.
It’s an interesting social experiment:
Couples initially date without ever seeing.
The couples that 1.5 years later were still happy
Were those that seemed to have chosen a
Connection over “credentials”.
Someone recently shared her disappointment
In a friend with intellect, class and pedigree’s
Choice of a partner
From a markedly different economic/social class.
She worried, certain they were destined to fail.
I’ve said it before, so much of life undulates.
There’s no guarantee that wealth or status stay,
That class & background are measures of
Capacity to bring joy, show kindness, give peace
Marriage is long & money can’t buy everything
(Still no tissue y’all! #Corona).
I think the wise are those brave enough
To put aside everything but a person’s core:
The values that drive a man or woman.
And if you can’t,
That you’re brave enough to own your choice.
Jessica, on Love is Blind, fascinated me.
A bit of a villain, but great entertainment.
A manager who couldn’t bring herself to date
A younger man and a gym instructor.
Despite a real, a strong soul connection,
She kept worrying about her friends’ opinions.
Yet, when she finally told them,
They said, “If you like it, we love it.🤷🏽‍♀️“
Lol, because everyone has their own wahala.
The show really made me think:
How many perfect matches miss each other
Because they aren’t open?
And sure, watching the show there were 1 or 2
You wonder to yourself, “Why are YOU single?!”
By the end you think, “Ahhh that’s why!” 😂
Many others showed something else, sometimes
It’s the system, not the individual, that’s flawed.
There were so many great individuals
For whom the technology of dating today
And warped social standards work against. •
Looking for love in these apocalyptic😩 days?
Maybe it’s time to try the Love is Blind formula:
Open heart to love & closed ears to society? •
