Buthaina

Buthaina

This is Buthaina, a little girl pulled from rubble after a bomb destroyed the flat she lived in with her parents and five siblings in Yemen. According to CNN, “Shortly after, local media tried to interview her while she was on her hospital bed. Buthaina tried to force one of her eyes open to see who was speaking to her.”

This is a photo of this baby doing just that, trying to gain some clarity in a confusing world that had just stolen everything that was real to her.

I don’t understand why this story affected me so much it really really broke me today, guys.

There’s so much suffering in the world today that it’s easy to forget that the people dying daily from natural and man-made/man-driven disasters, are just that: PEOPLE. People with families, dreams, complex emotions, laughter and anxieties. People who dreamt big or spoke little, men who made commitments, kids that broke New Year resolutions.

Sigh.

This isn’t a post with answers… or with anything really but the saddened rant of a helpless girl.
